Vision

Winther is a Danish family business in its fourth generation. Since 1932, Winther has produced high-quality products with a craftsman's pride, focusing on the play and movement of children. Our aim is to stimulate the development of children’s motor, cognitive and social skills through play and movement. We believe in ‘Learning by moving® and that active children enhance their motor development, strengthen cognitive and social skills, and build confidence in themselves through play and movement. This combination of play and movement motivates children to learn.

Quality

Quality comes from knowledge

Quality is about more than just using the best materials. That’s why we work with teachers, physical therapists, industrial designers and engineers to ensure that design, functionality and a concept we call ‘play value’ are built into everything we produce. Our products are timeless, sustainable and durable.

Honesty and accountability

We make big promises – and we keep them too.

Our attention to detail and relentless focus result in high quality products and services. That’s why we have so many loyal customers all over the world.

Play and learning

Learning new things is fun

Our products stimulate children’s imagination through physical activity. We believe that a healthy balance of cognitive, social and motor skills creates harmonious, happy children.

History

Winther and Gonge both supply kindergartens, schools and other institutions globally, as well as the retail market. The two brands offer a range of products that complement each other perfectly, providing a wide variety of ways to encourage children to play and to move.
The philosophies of Winther and Gonge matched so well that merging the two Companies was a natural development; the merger was completed on the 1st of July 2010.

Winther history

The Winther story began in 1930 with a traffic accident that left Anders Winther unable to do the hard manual work of a blacksmith. Instead, he looked for other ways to make a living and, in 1932, began producing toboggans, later extending the product range to include tricycles and scooters as well. Winther bicycles were introduced by Anders’ brother, Frede, in 1947.

Around 1955, the Company began exporting its products to other countries. The tricycles became an international success and, in 1959, Frede designed a tricycle with a fixed steel tray that became a classic and was produced for several decades. Anders Winther, grandson of the founder, became managing director in 1976. The production of bicycles for older children and adults was later sold off so that Winther could concentrate on its core competency of producing trikes and scooters, etc. The Company’s founder, Anders Winther senior, was interested in working with children, their play and their movement, and this led to the development of a series of trikes and bikes for children, which ultimately became Winther’s mission.

Gonge history

The Gonge family started ‘Skoleforlaget Gonge’ in 1966 as a publishing company, producing and marketing educational materials especially for preschool institutions in Denmark. Since then, the Company has changed, becoming a global developer of creative learning. The tipping point for the Company came with a single product, the Giant Top, a toy produced for children’s play and movement. This grew into a wide and varied range of toys and tools that established a philosophy of stimulating movement, as well as cognitive and social development.
